These pieces seem to arise on their own. I splash water upon the paper that I then move around intuitively, still formless, water against a white page. I can’t see the shape I’ve made; I hope for a form that lies somewhere between movement and stillness, or between something I’ve never seen with something I’ve been. No time to wonder. Before the edges evaporate, I apply ink and watch it spill into and animate the form.
